This scholarship honors the legacy of Thomas Bellavia, a remarkable educator who dedicated over 50 years of his life to the students of the Tangipahoa Parish School System. Serving as a teacher, administrator, and district leader, Mr. Bellavia left an indelible mark on the lives of countless students, teachers, colleagues, and families.

Selection Criteria

To be eligible for the Thomas Bellavia Memorial Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Credit Union Membership: Parent of the applicant must be a member in good standing of the Tangipahoa Parish Teachers’ Credit Union.
  •  High School Requirement: Applicant must be a graduate of a high school in Tangipahoa Parish.
  • Academic Achievement: Applicant must graduate with at least a 3.0 grade point average.
  • Higher Education: Applicant must be on a path to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree at Southeastern Louisiana University.
  • Ongoing Eligibility: Applicant must maintain a 2.5 grade point average and re-apply each semester.
  • Evaluation: Selection will be based on GPA, financial need, and the required memorial essay. **Essay: Share with us someone who has made an impact on you during your educational journey and how that has supported you in your next endeavor.

Application Deadlines & Submission

  • Fall Semester Deadline: June 15th

  • Spring Semester Deadline: November 15th

  • Submission Rule: Completed applications along with transcripts must be received on or before the deadline. Late applications will not be accepted.

  • Driver’s license or passport (Birth certificate for minors only)
  • Social Security Card
  • Proof of full-time employment with Tangipahoa Parish School System or SLU or your relationship status
  • $26.00(cash/check)-No Debit cards

REGULATION & SUPERVISION
Tangipahoa Parish Teachers' Credit Union was chartered under state law. State chartered credit unions are regulated by their state credit union department. NCUA administers the federal insurance fund, NCUSIF, which covers all federal credit unions, and most state chartered credit unions. No taxpayer money is used for regulating and overseeing federal credit unions, as all activities of NCUA and the NCUSIF are funded by credit unions.
